Our Mission

The mission of CASANYS is to broadly support and develop local volunteer advocacy on behalf of the best interest of abused and neglected children.

CASANYS is the State Association of a network of affiliate programs whose trained volunteers are appointed by Family Court judges to advocate for the best interest of children in cases of abuse and neglect.

Legislation for CASA signed by the Governor!

The legislation  provides statutory and legislative recognition of CASA, a volunteer based program that, for the past 38 years, has provided substantive advocacy for abused and neglected children in the family courts throughout New York State.  The legislation codifies Court Rules established in 2006 that set forth the requirements for CASA program certification and Office of Court Administration funding, and define the role of the CASA volunteer in “providing thorough information about the health, safety, well-being and permanency plans of children and their families to the court, the parties and law guardian…”[1]

The signing of this legislation by Governor Cuomo  further establishes the Legislature’s support for CASA, and strengthens CASA’s ability to provide needed help for our most vulnerable children in our family courts and foster care system.
